Scott Lake gets the afternoon sun straight on the west-facing gates, and thermal cycling had work-hardened this hinge weld over eight years until it cracked through. The gate was dragging the stamped concrete so hard the homeowner had stopped using it entirely. We cut the old tube out, prepped the frame to bare metal, fitted a 3-inch Schedule 40 replacement with a 1/4-inch gusset plate, and welded it with 7018 rod in three passes. LiftMaster LA500 - Photo Eye Misalignment in Rolling Oaks
The LiftMaster LA500 on this Rolling Oaks estate was reversing mid-cycle with no obstruction visible. We found both photo eyes - the infrared beam pair that stops the gate if something crosses the path - knocked 15 degrees off parallel by a string trimmer. The beam was catching landscape mulch at the edge of the path. We realigned to within 1/8 inch over 30 feet, secured the wiring in new PVC conduit with expansion loops, and recalibrated the obstruction sensitivity in the control board. $180. Aluminum Driveway Gate - Corroded Bottom Rail in Andover
